Psalm 103:17-18

But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.

As our children grow up and move on to new stages of life, pursue new ventures, become more independent, and have their own experiences away from us (those who love and care about them), isn’t it reassuring to know that the Lord’s everlasting love and righteousness is with them?  It is promised in the verse above.

For all who fear Him, keep his covenant, and strive to live in obedience to Him, His love and righteousness will be with their children and their children’s children – in other words, from generation to generation.  Wow.  Is that not incentive to live faithfully with the Lord?  Even if not for one’s own blessings, but for the rewards and benefits it brings for our children and the generations that will follow.  What greater gift could we give, or legacy could we pass on?  This is not to say that our faith is passed on to them, for each must choose the Lord for him/herself, but we are promised that the Lord’s love and righteousnes will be with them.

Father God, I thank You and praise You, that You are with my children even when I am not.  That as they grow up and move on in their lives – whether as small children growing from one stage to the next, or older children moving on in their lives, YOU are there.  I thank You and praise You that Your love and faithfulness are everlasting, from generation to generation, for those who fear you, live in obedience to you, and seek to follow in Your ways.  How wonderful that you reward us for our faith by tending to our children, and generations to follow.  What greater blessing could we seek?  Thank You, Lord.   In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
