I Found Prayer

A funny thing happened on the way to despair

I threw myself down, then looked up to find Prayer.

He looked at me kindly, then kneeled down to me.

His arms stretched out widely to give and receive.

They offered love, hope, joy, and peace,

And were waiting to take my worries and needs.

I felt awe and fear.  I lay there confused.

He was offering the grace I’d so often refused.

There’d been so many time I’d neglected His help,

Too prideful to pray, I’d done things myself.

He wanted to be with me, be part of my day,

But I’d shut Him out, too busy to pray.

Yes, I’d lived on my own, without Him in my life,

So here I was struggling, overwhelmed by my strife.

Again I looked up, “Lord Savior, be mine!”

“Be at peace,” He said. “My grace is your find.”

Yes, a funny thing happened on the way to despair.

I found hope and new life when I turned to Prayer.

I keep making mistakes!  Lately I’ve made mistakes as a wife, a mother, in personal relationships, socially, and in my daily tasks.  Sometimes it’s what I’ve done.  Other times it’s what I failed to do.  So frustrating!

Here’s what I’ve learned from my mistakes:

  • I can’t change the past, but I can work to improve my future.
  • About mistakes:  No matter how big. No matter how small.  God’s grace is sufficient to cover them all.
  • Correction isn’t fun, but it’s good for us.
  • Just because God is gracious, doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences.

Consequences can affect our relationships with others.  Consequences can also involve correction, disciple, and punishment.

The Bible says this:

…God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.  No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.   Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.  Make level paths for your feet…    ~ Hebrews 12:10-13

Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he that trusts the Lord.   ~  Proverbs 16:20

It is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  ~  Ephesians 2:8-10

You therefore, my son (or daughter), be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.    ~ 2 Timothy 2:1

My (the Lord’s) grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.  ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.  ~ 1 Corinthians 15:10

Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…    ~ 1 Peter 1:3

“God’s heart of mercy provides for us not only pardon from sin, but also a daily provision of spiritual food to strengthen us.”  – Jim Cymbala

Praise be to God!

I wrote the following poem 10 years ago for my cousin who was going through a tough time.  It came to mind today and I felt I should post it on my site for others who might need encouragement, too.    God bless you!

For God Always Loves You

Don’t ever give up.  Don’t give in to despair.

For God’s always with you and He always cares.

He is there to listen when your heart is sad.

He shares your burdens when life makes you mad.

He made you, created you, and He loves you so.

But it’s up to you to hold on or let go.

So what will it be?  Please choose Him today.

He is right there with you, just a prayer away.

Cry out to the Lord!  Bring him into your heart!

He’ll heal you, transform you, and give a fresh start!

So do not give up.  Don’t give in to despair.

For God always loves you and God always cares.

Thursday, May 3, is designated as National Day of Prayer, but don’t be fooled by the title of the day because EVERY DAY IS A DAY FOR PRAYER!

Suggestion:  Go to www.BibleGateway.com and do a search for ‘prayer’ verses. ( Just enter ‘prayer’ in the search box.)  Read through the verses and take note of the verses that seem to speak to you.  Then take a few moments to offer your heart to God in prayer.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.   ~ 2 Chronicles 7:14

Rejoice evermore.  Pray without ceasing.  In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

God always answers knee mail!

Pray and make it a great day.  🙂
