Let’s continue celebrating 14 Days of Love as we approach Valentine’s Day with verses about love from the Bible.  Today’s verse:

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  – Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV)

The first of the Ten Commandments says, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” – Exodus 20:3 (NKJV)  God’s first instruction was for us to put Him before all other things in our life.  Deuteronomy 6:5 is more specific saying that we’re to love God with our whole heart and all of our strength.  In other words, we’re to love God with everything we’ve got!

It’s been said that if we truly loved God and put Him first in all aspects of our lives, then we wouldn’t need the remaining commandments, for truly loving God makes us want to be pleasing to Him and loving to others.

Side note:  Look again at the verse from Exodus (20:3). Notice that the word ‘gods’ is spelled with a lower case ‘g’ and ‘Me’ is spelled with an upper case ‘M’.  That indicates the word ‘gods’ in this verse refers to non-deity.  Likewise, the upper case ‘M’ in the word ‘Me’ indicates reference to our one true God, the LORD our God, God the Father Almighty.

May you have a day blessed with love, and may your love be a blessing to God.
